A 6-team double elimination bracket has 10 games, or 11 if the grand final is reset.
Double elimination means a participant is eliminated only after a second loss. Everyone begins in the winners bracket. A first loss sends the participant into the losers bracket. A second loss ends the tournament for that participant.
For n entrants, a standard double-elimination tournament has:

The arithmetic comes from losses. Every entrant except the champion must eventually take two losses. If the champion stays undefeated, the tournament ends after 2(n - 1) total losses. Because each match creates one loss, that is 2n - 2 matches. If the winners-side finalist takes a first loss in grand finals, one additional match is required to produce the final second loss.

To run a 6-team double elimination bracket, place the six entrants into an 8-position winners bracket with two byes, move every first-time loser into the corresponding losers-bracket position, and eliminate each entrant only after a second loss.
Because six is not a power of two, the winners bracket needs two first-round byes. In a seeded event, those normally go to seeds 1 and 2.

A seeded 6-team double elimination bracket ranks the entrants before placement so that the highest seeds receive the most favorable opening positions and the strongest known players are separated.
For six players, the two first-round byes normally go to seeds 1 and 2. Seeds 3 through 6 play the opening matches.
Seeding also affects where players are positioned in the losers bracket after a first loss because that path comes from the winners-bracket structure.
The purpose of seeding is not to guarantee that the top seed wins. It is to avoid making the strongest known entrants play each other immediately when the organizer has credible ranking information.
For six teams, single elimination needs 5 matches, double elimination needs 10 or 11, and a single round robin needs 15 matches.

Choose single elimination when time is the main constraint. Choose double elimination when every entrant should survive one loss. Choose round robin when you want each team to play every other team and have enough time for the larger match count.
The tournament structure should match the event goal rather than automatically defaulting to the same format every time.

In a traditional double-elimination final, the winners-bracket finalist enters with zero losses and the losers-bracket finalist enters with one, so the losers-side finalist must normally win twice to eliminate the undefeated player.
